Fort Jackson to host Independence Day festival Friday

<font size="2">The show will conclude with a 30-minute fireworks display and a cannon salute.</font>


SUMTER, SC (WACH) - Fort Jackson will be hosting a Independence Day celebration, July 3.


The day kicks off at 8am with a 5k Run and a 12 and a half mile bike ride at Hilton Field.


The Fort Jackson Golf Club will be having an open house at 9am and starting at 11am, there will be a Spades and Dominos tournament, bowling, mini golf and a water park.


The four o'clock hour will see games for the kids at Hilton Field and the musical entertainment will start at 6:30pm with Eric Mayweather and the Fort Jackson 282 Band.


The show will conclude with a 30-minute fireworks display and a cannon salute.


The festival is open to all and those who are attending should plan to arrive early to ease the parking and seating situation.


Those who are non-military should enter through Gate 2 or Gate 4 and everyone older than 16 will need to present proper identification to gain entry.


Random vehicle searches will be conducted at the gate.


Food and drink concessions will be located at Hilton Field and pets, grills, alcohol, weapons and fireworks are not permitted.


When the festivities end at 10pm, guests are encouraged to follow exit instructions.
