OnPoint on WACH Fox: Getting the backing for small business
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - On this week's OnPoint on WACH Fox we look at the importance of small business to the economy and ways to make sure your business has the financial support it needs to succeed.
Small businesses are an important part of the national and local economy. They contribute to the unique fabric of the communities where they operate, act as hubs of innovation, and enable society to draw on the talents of their founders and employees.
As important as small business is to the economic health of a community, a business without a funding source will flounder under the weight of its own debt.
Funding is the fuel on which a business runs. After the financial crisis of 2008, many small businesses struggled, while others closed citing difficulty accessing capital.
On Wednesday June 6, the city of Columbia’s Office of Business Opportunities is hosting Lender Matchmaker: Access to Capital Symposium to help people with that.
We will be talking with several organizers of the event to let you know how to get involved.
Also, we'll be looking at youth crime and violence. The Midlands has been experiencing an uptick in youth gun violence in recent months. That why leaders in the Lower Richland County area have decided to do something about it.
They're partnering with the Richland County Sheriff's Department on a gun amnesty program in Eastover aimed at getting guns off the street and bringing awareness to the increase in youth violence.
People from any community can attend the event and turn over firearms to officials, no questions asked.
