OnPoint on WACH Fox: SC musicians finding success
COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Coming up on this week's edition of OnPoint on WACH Fox we look at the rise and success of independent musical artists from South Carolina.
The music industry landscape is actually a lot better for independent musicians in 2017 than ever before. In fact, in just the last decade, there has been an astounding increase in independent musicians making their full-time living from music.
In the past, that was unheard of because everyone was waiting on that record deal from a major label. And for many, it never came.
But with the rise of online, social media and web-based opportunities for airplay and marketing, many artists are finding it increasingly advantageous to take the independent route.
South Carolina has a growing number of indy artists that not only get radio air-play like Terence Young, Dante Lewis & J'Michael Peeples--but many are finding regional and even national success. Some say more South Carolina artists are hitting the big time than any other time in history.
This week, we'll talk with a major music label rep about the path to success for those artists, plus meet several local musicians who are making a mark, and using their talents to raise money for an important cause in February.
