OnPoint on WACH Fox: The Senate healthcare bill & the impact on SC

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - On this week's edition of OnPoint on WACH Fox, we examine the U.S. Senate's healthcare proposal.

We look at what's in it, what's not and how it will impact South Carolina.

The Senate recently announced it would delay its vote on the GOP healthcare bill until after the fourth of July holiday. Some say the reason behind the delay is that Republicans don't have enough votes to get it passed at this point.

Many have criticized the plan for what’s in it and what is not.

For instance, the Senate bill would drop 22 million Americans from health insurance over 10 years, according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Of?ce.

In addition, under the Senate bill, federal spending on Medicaid would be reduced by $772 billion over the next 10 years, which would cut the number of people on Medicaid by more than 25 percent.

Critics also say the bill favors the wealthy while doing little to help America's most vulnerable citizens.

We talk to a local panel of healthcare insiders to look at what the proposal could mean for the Palmetto State.
