OnPoint on WACH Fox: Why is Black Panther connecting with so many people?
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - On this week's edition of OnPoint on WACH Fox, we look at the Black Panther phenomenon and why the film is resonating with so many people.
Since the release of Marvel's Black Panther in February, the film has been generating major money in theaters with box office receipts set to exceed $1 billion worldwide.
Fans have crowdfunded campaigns to make sure children can see the film in theaters, teachers have incorporated the movie’s core themes of anti-colonialism and cultural representation into lesson plans, and activists have used ?lm screenings to host mass voter registration drives.
The film's star, Chadwick Boseman, is a South Carolina native, but he isn't the film's only significant tie to the Palmetto State. A Marvel illustrator in the Midlands has also played a role in defining the Black Panther character. He will be in our studio to talk about the film's cultural impact.
Columbia designer, Laddie Howard, will also be here to talk about his growing business. Since the attorney started creating leather fashion accessories through his L Howard Artistry in Leather company, his products have significantly grown in popularity.
