Sanford cabinet talks jobs and economy

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Governor Mark Sanford met with his cabinet on Tuesday.

Several state agencies praised a new resource designed to get the unemployed back to work.

Workforce Employment officials gave a presentation on South Carolina Virtual OneStop. The website connects employers with people, and people with jobs.

Officials said the unemployment rate is still one of the worst in the country, and the online tool may help.

"It's a fairly transformative change in terms of applying a lot of what is applied in the business world in terms of using technology to in this case connect worker to employment option," Sanford said.

The Department of Revenue also gave an update. They spoke on a slow economic recovery.

Governor Sanford urged cabinet members to move forward with caution as they think about budgets for their agencies.

The cabinet also discussed the impact of losing the Bush tax cuts, if Congress does not extend them.
