COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Verizon Wireless is expanding its territory and that could result in more jobs in the Palmetto State.
The cellular giant announced plans to add 55 new cell towers to the area.
Company executives say they're focused on remaining a major employer and investor throughout the Midlands.
"There are over 4,300 employees in South Carolina and we recently announced the addition of our call center, opening up a new $43 million call center here in the Midlands so I expect us to grow in terms of employees," Verizon President of the Carolinas and Tennessee region Jerry Fountain says.
Last year, Verizon invested almost $87 million in South Carolina for improvements to its networks bringing the total to $770 million since 2000.
