Allen University names interim president

Allen University's Board of Trustees named Dr. Pamela Wilson as Interim President this week.

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Allen University has named an interim president to replace the former president who is facing claims of sexual harassment.

This week, the school's board of trustees named Dr. Pamela Wilson as Interim President.

Wilson has been with the school since 2006 where she has held positions such as Chairperson for the Division of Humanities and Social Science and Associate Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.

Prior to her time at Allen University, Dr. Wilson worked in administration at Ohio State University and Indiana State University.

"The University has faced challenges and witnessed many accomplishments over the past years; however, our mission is to continue to provide a quality academic experience for each our students," Wilson says.

Wilson replaces former president Dr. Charles Young who has been placed on leave.

Young is being accused of sexual harassment by an employee of the university.

Dr. Sonya Melton claims Young made several advances toward her pressuring her to have an inappropriate relationship with him.

Melton filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court.

Dr. Wilson will begin her responsibilities immediately at Allen University.
