Claflin University President, Henry N. Tisdale announces retirement.
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WACH)-- After serving Claflin University as its 8th president for more than 20 years, Tuesday Dr. Henry Tisdale announced his retirement.
Appointed to the Board of Trustees in 1994, Dr. Tisdale made sure to hold firm to the school’s Christian traditions.
Under Dr. Tisdale, Claflin’s attendance has double, with students coming from 26 states and 1 countries, helping to name the university as top Historically Black College or University by Forbes.com and listed in the top four percent of all colleges and universities in the nation.
“I am honored to serve Claflin in this leadership role,” Tisdale said. “I am thankful for the Claflin community that embraced my hopes, dreams and vision for the University. I never felt alone in the process to move the University forward. This has been a rewarding journey and a mission to make a difference.”
Dr. Tisdale’s retirement will take effect June 30, 2019.
The university’s office of communication has not begun the process of looking for a replacement.
