PELION (WACH) -- The graduation ceremony at Pelion High School on Saturday may be a somber affair as the loss of senior Cody Kyzer has affected his peers.
I have lost family members but I have never lost a friend as close to me as Cody, says classmate Morgan Thomason, so it's really hard.
Nearly 400 people gathered at the school's gym on Monday to honor the senior whose life ended suddenly last Thursday in a motorcycle accident.
Kyzer was traveling west on Convent Church Road just before 4 p.m., when he lost control of his motorcycle. He died from injuries at Lexington Medical Center, according to authorities.
On the day of the accident, he signed to play baseball at USC Salkahatchee. Kyzer was a four-year starter for the Panther baseball team.
I was very fortunate that morning in that I was the one who took the pictures of his signing, says Pelion High School secretary Effie Bailey. "The thing I think most about Cody was that precious smile he had.
Kyzer is described by family and friends as one that always liked to make others laugh.
He was always in a good mood, very energetic and full of spirit, says Panthers baseball coach Barry Fogle.
Although the promising young student is gone, his life will be carried on through those who came to love him.
A Facebook page is set up in Kyzer's honor. It currently has more than 1,300 members.
