New school book looks at SC prisoners of war

High school students can learn more about South Carolina's veterans with a new book being distributed to schools.

The book is titled Heroes Survivors.

It features firsthand experiences of 49 veterans held as prisoners of war.

Retired Army Chaplain Tom Grove says it's important these stories are told.

"Much of this stuff is not taught in schools today," Grove explains. "But this will give them a bird's eye view of real stuff we all went through."

The first copy will go to a Columbia high school.

Copies will eventually go to the libraries in each of the state's public high schools.
