COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman picked up a South Carolina endorsement Monday.

During an announcement at the State House, Attorney General Alan Wilson put his weight in the corner of the Huntsman camp.

Wilson calls Huntsman a strong conservative candidate and says the 2012 GOP Presidential Candidate will be in South Carolina a lot during the campaign season.

He's been here a couple times but you are about to get to know this guy and I believe when the people of South Carolina get to know the Governor the way I do they will feel the same way, Wilson says about Huntsman.

Huntsman says he was honored by the Wilson TMs endorsement.

This puts us in a position in South Carolina where I begin to like our odds I begin to like our chances in this state I believe that South Carolina is going to be a great state for the Huntsman campaign, Huntsman says.

Wilson becomes the first statewide officer to make a presidential endorsement for the 2012 race.

South Carolina Sen. John Courson was also on hand to show his support. Courson has already thrown his support to Huntsman.

Huntsman has trailed far behind in the polls, but says they can be misleading this early in the race.
