A national conservative group is spending big money in South Carolina's congressional runoffs.
Federal Election Commission records show the Club for Growth has spent about $54,000 supporting the candidacy of black Republican Tim Scott in his runoff against Paul Thurmond in the state's 1st Congressional District.
The group has spent even more -- just under $100,000 -- supporting Jeff Duncan in the 3rd District along the western edge of the state.
Duncan is a state representative from Laurens who faces businessman Richard Cash of Powdersville in Tuesday's runoff. The 3rd District seat is now held by Gresham Barrett, who is running for governor.
The Club for Growth promotes cutting taxes, budget reform and free trade as a path to economic growth.
