COLUMBIA (WACH) -- According to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll, Republican gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley holds a 16 percent lead over Democratic opponent Vincent Sheheen.Related Stories Poll: Haley holding on to lead over Sheheen Haley leads Sheheen in new poll
The poll, released Friday, places Haley earning 52 percent over Sheheen's 36 percent.
Ten percent of voters remain undecided, while 3 percent prefer a different candidate.
The recent report gives Haley a boost over last month's poll from 49 percent. Sheheen climbed one percentage point from 35 percent.
Haley grabs 30 percent of voter approval, while 13 percent have an unfavorable view.
Sheheen claims an 18 percent favorable outlook, with an 11 percent negative view.
The survey was conducted over the phone on August 25. Five-hundred likely South Carolina voters were questioned. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
Haley and Sheheen square off against Green Party candidate Morgan Reeves this November.
