State GOP picks Connelly as new chair

      Chad Connelly

Chad Connelly is the new chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party.

Connelly, who takes over for Karen Floyd, was elected by acclamation at the state convention Saturday before vote tallies were announced in a second round of voting. He is an Army veteran and motivational speaker from Newberry County.

Greenville lawyer Stephen Brown and Orangeburg lawyer Bill Connor dropped out of the race as the second vote was counted.

Connelly's election means he'll become the party's chief fundraiser as it puts on the first-in-the-South presidential primary next year.
