Myers defeats Scott to earn full-term on Richland County Council
RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) - Dalhi Myers has defeated Richland County Council veteran Bernice Scott for the second time in two weeks in a run-off election.
Myers defeated Scott by a 69% to 31% margin Tuesday night. Myers defeated Scott earlier this month to fill the Richland County Council District 10 seat in the short term that was vacated by Kelvin Washington.
Tuesday night, Richland County voters elected Myers to a full four-year term.
"I'm excited and humbled to stand for the Council Seat in the District where I was born and raised! Once elected, I look forward to representing not just the well-healed and well-connected members of our community, but (most importantly) the least, the lost, and the left behind," said Myers in a Facebook post in April.
Myers, a Columbia attorney, is taking over for Kelvin Washington who was removed from office in March by Governor Nikki Haley after he pleaded guilty to failing to pay his taxes.
The underfire ex-councilman is also awaiting a court date for felony DUI charges stemming from a February wreck that left one man seriously injured.
Scott, Washington' mother-in law, held the district 10 seat prior to Washington.
