Person killed in Tuesday afternoon crash in West Columbia identified
GASTON, S.C. (WACH) -- The Lexington County Coroner's Office has identified the person killed in a Tuesday afternoon accident in West Columbia.
According to Coroner Margaret Fisher, 23-year-old Shakel Duane Cannon was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries he sustained.
According to Lance Cpl. David Jones, just before 5:30 p.m., Cannon was driving a 2002 Chevy Tahoe in the 300 block of Glenn Road when he went off the right side over the roadway, overcorrected, and then went off of the left side of the road and struck a utility pole.
Two other passengers were inside of the vehicle at the time and were taken to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Cannon was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The SCHP continues to investigate the collision.
