1 dead in fatal collision on I-77
Columbia, S.C. (WACH)-- Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has released the name of the individual who died in the fatal collision Thursday afternoon.
Just around 7:15 p.m. Harry B. Williams was traveling southbound on I-77 between Forest Drive and Fort Jackson Boulevard, when he ran off the left side of the roadway, crossed into the median, and hit a van traveling northbound head-on.
Williams who was driving a 2006 Crown Victoria was wearing a seat-belt at the time of the incident died at the scene from blunt force trauma.
The passenger that was in the vehicle with him was not wearing a seat-belt at the time and was transported to Palmetto Health Richland with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the van was also transported to Palmetto Health Richland with serious injuries.
The SC Highway Patrol continue to investigate this incident.
