RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WACH)-- One of the victims shot near a Hopkins church Thursday has died, according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.

Corner Watts confirmed 17-year-old Amon Rice died from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Just after 7 p.m. deputies responded to several calls about shots being fired on Green Lakes Drive near Unity Missionary Church.

Upon arrival deputies found Rice with gunshot wounds and transported him to a local hospital.

They later learned that a second victim had been shot, but was transported to the hospital by family members with non-life threatening injuries after being shot in the lower part of his body.

Rice was a student at Lower-Richland High School on the varsity basketball team where he averaged nine points per game.
