LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WACH) - A meth lab being operated out of an unoccupied home near West Columbia was busted by Lexington county law enforcement officers Tuesday afternoon. Two men were arrested.
Sheriff James R. Metts says deputies the Lexington County Sheriff's Department went to an unoccupied home on Joye Street around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a tip.
Deputies smelled a strong chemical odor coming from the home, according to Metts. Roger Allan Lee, Jr., 34, of Gaston and Charles Richard Richter, 32, of Wadmalaw came out of the home after deputies arrived.
Officers placed the men in investigative detention and executed a search warrant at the home, Metts said. Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement were contacted to assist deputies in the investigation. They found a one-liter plastic soda bottle on the front porch actively was being used as a reaction vessel to manufacture methamphetamine.
Lee and Richter were arrested on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine and were being held Wednesday at the Lexington County Detention Center awaiting bond hearings.
