20-year-old man injured in Richland County hit-and-run

A hit-and-run collision injured one man Monday morning in Richland County, according officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

BLYTHEWOOD, SC (WACH) - A hit-and-run collision injured one man Monday morning in Richland County, according officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Trooper Brent Kelly says a garbage truck was struck by a lawn care service truck that was attempting to pass the garbage truck around 8:45 Monday morning on Killian Road between Governor Pond Road and U.S. 21 in Blythewood.

A 20-year-old man was working on the garbage truck, riding on the outside of the truck on the driver's side, when he was hit by the lawn care service truck, according to Kelly. The lawn care service truck fled the scene.

Authorities say the garbage collector was the only person injured in the incident. The victim was transported to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries have not been reported, but he is reportedly conscious and talking.

While there is no description of the driver of the lawn care service truck, Kelly says the vehicle is described as a landscaping truck with a white cab and a flat, green bed area. The lawn care service truck could have damage to the right passenger mirror.
