COLUMBIA (WACH) - Indy Grits has quickly and quietly become the coolest event in our famously hot city. Less pretentious than Sundance and without the cine-snobbery of Tribeca, Indy Grits is to independant films as mudbogging is to organized sport. From April 12-21, and open to amateur to professional filmmakers, the selections are juried, and unique in both content and form. Many films will be screened at The Nickelodeon Theatre and various other locations in town. To get you started, here's a complete list of titles and scheduled screentimes.
One of the most awaited events is the Spork in Hand Puppet Slam, an adult version of old school puppets. This one gets kinda racy, so book a babysitter and call a cab! Shows are on Saturday at 7:00 and 9:00 PM at the Nickelodeon. for more information, check out my interview with Mr. Crow, plus you can buy your tix in advance right here!
Another slice of heaven is Cinemovements, film selections that have been scored in reverse. The SC Philharmonic composed pieces especially for this event, and filmmakers created short films to accompany the music. We got a sneak peek recently on Good Day Columbia. This is truly a one-of a-kind party, and you're invited on Monday at 320 Senate at 8:00 PM.
There will be a ton of music, and Kool Moe Dee will make an appearance at the Hip Hop Family Day on Saturday from 11am to 5pm on the corner of Laurel and Main Streets. if you're thinking all this greatness is going to make you hungry, not to worry ... Slow Food at Indy Grits will present the Sustainable Chefs Showcase on Sunday from 4-7pm at 701 Whaley.
