3 men wanted for car theft, home invasion in Orangeburg Co.

Orangeburg, S.C. (WACH)-- The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Department are searching for several suspects who are believed to have been involved in a gunfight during a home invasion.

According to Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, late Monday a 2017 Jeep was stolen from a hotel on St. Matthews Road where a West Virginia man reported it stolen.

Security video at the hotel depicts three persons of interest on the property as the Jeep's owner pulled up at the lobby. One of the three males in the video can be seen jumping into the Jeep and speeding off.

"These individuals need to be brought in before they hurt someone or worse," the sheriff said. "They've already demonstrated they don't care about life, including their own."

On Tuesday morning, a Cameron man called 911 after exchanging gunfire with someone who had broken into his home.

The man said just before 5 a.m. he was awakened by a noise. He said he heard someone walking inside of his home.

He then saw a man walking toward his bedroom when he grabbed his firearm. Fearing for his safety, the man opened fire on the intruder, who fired shots at the homeowner before fleeing the area.

Evidence gathered at the man's house lead investigators to believe the theft of the Jeep and the home invasion are related, the sheriff said.

If anyone has any information on the trio or the location of the Jeep, they are asked to call the OCSO at 803-534-3550 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
