Accused Killer Makes First Court Appearance After Body Found

Freddie Grant appeared in court at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Friday morning at 9:30. The session was to determine whether Grant is eligible for a Public Defender. The judge did not actually set a bond, since that will happen in General Sessions Court. A date for that hearing has yet to be set.

When the judge asked Grant what his address was for paperwork purposes, Grant responded that his address was â??the penitentiaryâ??. When asked if he would like to be screened for a Public Defender, Grant replied he already had an attorney. He said he had been in contact with Fielding-Pringle but the Public Defenderâ??s Office has yet to confirm this fact.

Grant was brough into Alvin S. Glenn Thursday night at 8:12 p.m. by the Richland County Sheriff's Department after he led authorities to the body of Gabbiee Swainson.
