Active shooter vest benefitted to local police department
Lexington, S.C. (WACH)--A Midlands police department is now in possession of a vest specialized for active shooter incidents.
The Pelion Police Department was presented the titanium alloyed vest Saturday afternoon at the Moonshiners Patio Bar and Brill.
In-Vest USA partnered with the bar and Carolina Chrome Magazine to host a bikers rally and a poker run in which all of the proceeds went towards an active shooter vest for the department.
According to officials with In-Vest, each vest generally runs about $700.
Michael Letts, founder of In-Vest, says it's important that every officer is in possession of such vests, especially in light of recent events such as the Las Vegas massacre.
"These vests were developed specifically to deal with high-powered rifles," said Letts. "Which we are now seeing more and more of our officers being assaulted and killed daily with these weapons."
In-Vest is a charity that provides active shooter and concealable vests to first responders, officer and K-9 dogs in South Carolina and worldwide.
