COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Several groups are again teaming up for a program that aims to use baseball to keep Columbia-area teens safe and off the streets.
At MeadowLake Park on Monday, Attorney General Alan Wilson is working with organizations including the Columbia Police Department and the Richland County Sheriff's Department for Badges for Baseball.
The program serves at-risk Columbia youth, helping them learn life lessons from law enforcement mentors while participating in baseball- and softball-themed activities.
The initiative was started by the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, which partners with the U.S. Department of Justice to pair law officers with kids in underserved communities.
