Agents on the run to help Special Olympics

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents are running in this year TMs Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics South Carolina.

More than twenty Special Agents and other SLED employees are making the 26.2 mile trek benefiting Special Olympics athletes Friday. Their journey began at 7:30 in the morning.

Agents are running from Highway 76 in Chapin from the Newberry County line, passing SLED Headquarters until they reach the State House steps in downtown Columbia around Noon for the Capital to the Cauldron event.

So far, SLED has raised more than $1,140 for the organization.

Director Reggie Lloyd says, These Agents do not hesitate to help the Special Olympics every year. The athletes exemplify achievement on all levels. SLED is proud to support an organization that empowers opportunity.

After the run, Special Olympics South Carolina participants will take part in the Flame of Hope event at Fort Jackson to officially kick off the 2011 Summer Games.
