AIKEN, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say charges against a 28-year-old Aiken man have been upgraded after a child in his care died.
Aiken County deputies said Monday that Ivory Blackshire is now charged with homicide by child abuse.
Investigators said Blackshire was originally charged with inflicting great bodily injury to a child after paramedics were called to his home Thursday for an injured 2-year-old child. They boy later died in the hospital.
Deputies say they have determined Blackshire was responsible for the boy's death, but did not release details about what happened.
Blackshire remains in the Aiken County jail. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
