COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Allen University in Columbia has sworn in its first female president.

The State newspaper reported that Pamela Wilson took over Thursday as the historically black school's 24th president.

Wilson says she hopes to provide stability while raising standards. Wilson says she also wants to diversify the student body and restore the school's financial footing.
