SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Amazon.com is hiring thousands of seasonal workers for its distribution centers in Spartanburg and Lexington counties.
The Seattle-based company announced Tuesday the jobs are part of the online retailer's plans to hire least 70,000 temporary workers nationwide during the holiday season. That's 40 percent more seasonal workers than the company hired last year.
Amazon spokeswoman Kelly Cheeseman says more than 1,000 people will be hired for its Spartanburg County location and thousands will be hired for Lexington County. The seasonal employees will work full-time hours earning up to $11.50 an hour. They are eligible for health care benefits.
Cheeseman says some of those jobs could lead to permanent employment.
