Arrested father of kidnapped child has long history with the law
CLARENDON COUNTY, SC (WACH) - Brandon Lee Dubose, Sr., is in jail tonight, but it is not the first time he has been behind bars.
Almost twenty-four hours after authorities say he kidnapped his 2-year-old son, Brandon Dubose, Jr., Brandon Dubose, Sr., is back in custody.
Dubose is a familiar face to local law enforcement with a crime record that extends all the way back to 1997.
Dubose, Sr., has been convicted of numerous misdemeanors anf felonies; many of which involved weapons, vehicles and domestic violence.
Authorities say Dubose's most recent visit to prison before Tuesday morning was June 21 when he was accused of domestic abuse in Sumter County that reportedly occurred on June 11. He was released on bond, and it has been a nightmare for his wife and kids ever since.
"All he's done in the 11 days since he has been out is stalk these children and her, and sent text messages about what he intended to do to that child. It was all about to inflict pain on her through the child," said Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett.
Dubose will face additional charges this time.
"He assaulted an 11-year-old step daughter, which she tried to stop him when he was taking the 2-year-old. That's an assault right there," said Garrett
Garrett says he promises to punish Debose, Sr., to the fullest extent of the law.
"He's lost his right to walk the streets. He has lost that right as far as I'm concerned. He does not deserve a bond hearing, cause if they bond him out, he's going to do it again," said Garrett.
The boy is now home safe with his mother, while his father is back in jail.
