CASSATT, SC (WACH) - A trail of Cheetos lead Kershaw County deputies to arrest a man early Sunday morning.
According to the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office, Austin Lee Westfall Presler, 19, was arrested Sunday in connection with a robbery at the Cassatt Country Store in Cassatt, SC,
Authorities say a fuel delivery man, delivering fuel to the Cassatt Country Store, noticed the front glass of the store had been shattered. He called 911 and responding deputies determined that someone, later identified as Presler, had broken into the store through the front glass door and had stolen beer, cigarettes, snack foods and energy drinks. During this process Presler had inadvertently broken open a bag of Cheetos which were found strewn on the floor of the store.
A neighbor confirmed what surveillance video showed of a white car speeding away from the scene. Deputies began a foot search from the store and went to a home located nearby on Cassatt Rd. where they located a white car. Deputies went to the front door of the residence and observed fresh Cheetos on the front porch of the home.
Deputies got permission to search the home and found Presler in a room along with the stolen items. He was arrested at that time.
Presler was booked into the Kershaw County Detention Center charged with 2nd degree burglary and was released on a $15,000.00 bond. He has previous arrests for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances and DUS in Sumter County.
