Benedict College withdraws student charged in Five Points assault
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) —
The man charged with sexually assaulting a woman in Five Points has been withdrawn from Benedict College.
In a statement dated Friday, Benedict College announced the decision, saying:
Mr. Darrius M. Nelson has been administratively withdrawn from Benedict College. Students may be withdrawn administratively from the College at any time by the administration for the good of the College.
It is the policy of Benedict College not to comment on pending investigations or legal matters.
Nelson was listed on Benedict's football roster for the 2016 season as a sophomore tight-end.
Nelson was arrested Friday afternoon for sexually assaulting a woman on Saluda Avenue early Wednesday morning. The victim claims Nelson forced her into a secluded area and sexually assaulted her. She also sustained injuries to her face, which caused her to seek medical attention.
In a bond hearing on Saturday morning, Nelson was denied bond.
