Body found in SUV at KFC drive-through

Police say one person was found dead inside the vehicle.

Columbia police need help tracking down a killer. Someone found a man's body early Wednesday morning at a fast food restaurant. People living nearby say they won't feel safe until officers catch the killer.

The body was found in the drive-through lane at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Taylor street. Investigators suspect foul play only feet away from two of the city's colleges.

"The area the school is in is a drug infested area, it's nothing but gang-violence," said nearby resident Tiffany.

The Columbia woman, only wants to be known by her first name. She says violence has plagued the area for too long. Tiffany adds, students and locals are in constant danger.

"They didn't think they would have to walk through this area and duck down, and watching bullets fly pass their face," said Tiffany.

"We don't believe there is any reason to believe there is a masked gunman running around the City targeting our citizens," said Columbia Police Dept. Spokesman Brick Lewis.

The body was discovered around 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, when a restaurant employee reported to work and uncovered the crime scene.

"Regardless of what he did, it was not right for somebody to take his life," said Tiffany. "They were wrong for that."

Residents are hopeful tougher patrols and more community action will cut down on crime and increase peace of mind.
