Body of Elgin Teen Found Murdered

Columbia (WACH) -- The community of Elgin is in shock after the body of an 18 year old girl was found in the Haig's Creek subdivision. They say it's a quiet community and they can't believe something like this would happen here.

"It's terrible. This is a good community. It's a good community. I couldn't imagine anything like this happening. It's a total shock." says Lugoff resident Stephen Shurtz.

Kershaw County sheriffs deputies were called to this dirt road Wednesday afternoon after a group of children found the body of 18 year old Briana Rabon...A 2013 graduate of Lugoff-Elgin high school.

"She didn't just have an accident and die there. She was murdered. There's no question about it. It's being treated as a homicide. We don't know if she was kidnapped...I'm sure she was kidnapped." says Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews.

Sheriff Jim Matthews says Rabon was last seen sometime Tuesday.

Her parents filed a missing persons report Wednesday.

Deputies and sled investigators found Rabon's car at a Waffle House 6 miles from where she was found.

"This morning, 2 of our officers went out to the crime scene again and in better light searched from the scene out further than what was searched yesterday and they were able to find a very valuable piece of evidence." says Matthews.

The investigation is still on going at this point. Police urge you to call crime stoppers if you have any information.
