COLUMBIA (WACH) - From the mountains to the ocean, South Carolinians will soon have a chance to hike and bike across the entire state, and one corporation is doing their part to make it possible.
Boeing Co. and state lawmakers are partnering with the Palmetto Conservation Foundation to help build a 425 mile pathway, The Palmetto Trail, from the Upstate to the Lowcountry.
Boeing gave a grant of $150,000 to help finish funding the trail. When finished, it will be one of only 16 cross-state trails in the country.
"It goes through historic battlefields. It goes through small towns. It goes through the downtown of our great Capital City," said Natalie Britt, Palmetto Conservation Foundation Executive Director. "We have rail to trail conversions. We go along beautiful rivers. It really tells our story better than any other project."
The Palmetto Trail project is expected to be completed in about five years.
