      Calhoun County deputy involved in deadly crash

      One person is dead after a mid-morning crash in Orangeburg County along U.S. 21.

      ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WACH/TIMES & DEMOCRAT)- One person is dead after a mid-morning crash in Orangeburg County along U.S. 21.

      Trooper Judd Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver of a 2003 Saturn was heading south on U.S. 21 (Columbia Road). The deputy was traveling north in the opposite lane. The Saturn crossed into the northbound lane, where the cars collided.

      The driver of the Saturn died at the scene. Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers said the deputy was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

      The Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.

      The victim's name has not been released.
