IRMO, SC (WACH)--Barbecue and cars went hand in hand for a good cause Saturday.
The 2nd ever Championship Barbecue Challenge Car and Bike Show was held at the Carolina Ale House in Irmo. About 20 cars and motorcycles were judged on different categories; and there was some great grub for people.
All of the money is going to the Columbia Police Department Foundation so they can purchase new ballistic vests to protect the men and women in uniform.
Interim Police Chief Ruben Santiago said in light of the recent shooting incident with Deputy Sheila Aull, the vests really do save lives.
"Officers are always putting their lives on the line," Santiago said. "We want to make sure they have the best quality equipment that is going to take care of them."
