Carolina Cup organizers expecting new faces, more families this year

It has been a busy week at the Springdale Race Course, as the finishing touches are underway for the 81st Carolina Cup.

CAMDEN, SC (WACH) - It has been a busy week at the Springdale Race Course, as the finishing touches are underway for the 81st Carolina Cup.

The final tents are being put up, and thanks to the recent rain and cooler weather, cup organizers say the track is in great shape.

With the year's event galling on Easter weekend, organizers expect a big crowd. They think the holiday weekend may bring some new faces to the track.

"It's Easter weekend, so that has changed. I think that has changed our crowd a little bit. We'll have a lot more families this year, and a lot of local people," said Teri Leigh Teed with the Carolina Cup Racing Association.

Safety is a top priority for the Cup.

Camden Police will be making sure everyone stays safe before, during and after this year's event.

The 81st Carolina Cup is scheduled for March 30 in Camden. Gates open at 9 a.m.

Tickets are $45 per person and it is $10 for parking. Kids under the age of 12 are free with an adult.
