COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - A truck full of necessities for a group of homeless arrived in Finlay Park Wednesday night.
"I had an outpouring of help and volunteers," said Stacey Clampitt, the organizer of the event.
The idea of giving back to the community came after Clampitt was on her way to a doctor's appointment, noticing a few homeless people on Taylor Street in downtown Columbia.
"The last couple of Christmases have been so commercialized, and we just want to give something back," said Clampitt.
After posting her idea on Facebook, within two weeks, volunteers had donated enough items to fill more than 50 bags. Clampitt was also able to purchase 38 new coats.
"It is a blessing," said Theodore Egglaston, who has homeless for three years.
Clampitt plans to make this event as a tradition for the years to come.
