COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) -- The Columbia Fire Department will resume searching the Congaree River for a missing swimmer on Monday morning.

CFD announced they would resume the search for a swimmer who was separated from a group of friends. The three others made it to safety; one swam to shore, while the other two were rescued by another citizen.

The call came in around 11 a.m on Sunday. The Richland County dive team, as well as SLED, joined the search after CFD reached out. The emergency vehicle activity stalled Gervais Street traffic for about an hour before clearing out.

The search shifted to between the Gervais Street bridge and the Blossom Street bridge later in the afternoon. Two divers, as well as boats, continued to search the waters until they suspended the search for the evening.

The search will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning.
