City council race takes shape

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - Former mayoral candidate Joseph Azar is running for the Columbia City Council seat being vacated by Daniel Rickenman.

Azar lost a bid for the mayoral seat last year.

People in this city are looking for something new; for something better, said Azar. "They're looking for someone who's unselfish, who cares, who has the heart for doing it."

Azar, who runs a business in Five Points, will face Cameron Runyan. Runyan launched his campaign in July and is backed by Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin.
