Assistant city manager of public safety Mike King confirmed Friday afternoon that there is an investigation into allegations of wrongdoing by Columbia Police.
King says, "I spoke with Chief Carter today and I can confirm there is an investigation on this".
On February 4th...King put out a news release asking Police Chief Tandy Carter to investigate any and all allegations of wrongdoing.
Obviously it's not my job to rush the investigation, King says. I want to make sure it's complete, full and fair and objective." He tells us Chief Carter is the one reviewing and making a determination about the case.
At a court hearing Friday morning, the city's attorney told a judge she was not able to provide documents on the findings of an internal police investigation. Columbia Police Chief Carter tells WACH Fox News that he was not at the Friday TMs hearing. He says, The allegations are under an internal investigation but not by Columbia Police. SLED has taken it over."
SLED released a statement saying that they have accepted Chief Carters request to investigate the allegations regarding the Columbia Police Department. SLED officials would not comment any further.
