COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - The 3-year-old nephew of Columbia Fire Chief, Aubrey Jenkins, is on life support after being involved in a car accident Friday night.

According to Jenkins around 10:00 pm his niece LaToya Jenkins and her son Josiah Jenkins were going to get a pizza when another car crashed into them.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said Jenkins was traveling on North Springs Rd, when Lonnie Gross III hit the young boy's side of the car.

"He's on a ventilator, we're not sure if he's going to make it," said Jenkins

Troopers say Gross was under the influence during the time of the accident, and charged with felony DUI causing great bodily injury.

According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Friday night's DUI arrest was not Gross' first.
