Columbia Firefighters reach higher peaks

Firefighters practice response to tree emergencies.

Coulmbia, (WACH) -- The Columbia Fire Department received tree emergency training.

A partnership with Sox and Freeman tree company has created the opportunity for firemen to get some hands on training.

The tree company participates in training drills every year and has invited the fire department to get involved.

"This has added a whole new dimension to error rescue training," said Chris Freeman.

Before Tuesday there was not a way to practice real life tree rescue scenarios.

Special Operations Chief Jason Krusen said that this type of on the job training is invaluable to his team.

"We wanted to be able to utilize them as a resource and capture some of their basic knowledge and learn some of the tricks of the trade," said Krusen.

Both parties felt the training was beneficial and they plan to continue the partnership.
