Columbia holds meetings to discuss biking, walking

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Columbia is holding a series of meetings to get the public's input on plans to improve the city's transit needs.

The first of four meetings is scheduled for Tuesday at the Eau Claire Print Building. Other drop-in gatherings are taking place later in the week.

City officials say they are hoping to hear what people think about planning for Walk Bike Columbia! The effort is intended as a way to address the city's pedestrian, bicycle, and transit needs through analysis, public participation and collaborations among various agencies.

A website for the effort, www.walkbikecolumbia.org , has an interactive map where users can pinpoint specific locations where they would like to see improvements. There is also a brief survey and updated briefing materials.
