Sat, 03 Aug 2013 14:26:16 GMT — COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Officials in Columbia are scheduled to host a kickoff event for the National Night Out. This is the sixth year that the City of Columbia and the Columbia Council of Neighborhoods have put together this event. It's part of a yearlong community campaign that organizers hope will heighten crime prevention awareness and let criminals know that neighborhoods will fight back. The event is free and open to the public and features live entertainment, displays on home security and inflatable rides. Last year's kickoff drew more than 5,000 attendees.
