COLUMBIA (WACH, AP) -- The City of Columbia encouraging children to get up and get moving with a family fun day this weekend.
On Saturday, the city's Parks and Recreation Department put on its annual Let's Move - Kids Day at Finlay Park.
â??You know kids get a little lethargic in the summer time and they sit at home because itâ??s to hot to go outside to play. So we want to encourage them to get outside and play and be active, relay races, jump rope anything that keep them moving, is a form of exercise. We just donâ??t want them to be lazy during the summer time,â?? says Kim Mitchell, City of Columbia Parks & Recreation.
The daylong event included an interactive family fun zone and petting zoo. There was also a family fitness challenge, pony rides and live entertainment.
The event was free and open to the public. It's part of an initiative that focuses on encouraging kids and parents to live active lives and eat healthily.
