COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The Columbia Marathon is set to return in 2012 the Columbia Regional Sports Council announced Tuesday.
The race will be held on March 10, 2012 and will also feature a half-marathon and kid's marathon.
According to a release the marathon will start in Ballentine, cross the Lake Murray Dam and then head into downtown Columbia and finish near the State House.
Race Director Dan Hartley says it was a very popular race in the 90's.
"It was an Olympic qualifier for the women," Hartley says. "A big, big marathon, a lot of publicity for the area. Not sure why, but it went away for about 10 years. Being a runner myself and having a lot of runners in the community and region, i see a demand for the product."
A half marathon and kid's race will also be offered.
Registration information will be released when it becomes available.
More information can be found on the marathon's website.
