COLUMBIA (WACH) - Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin claimed victory in his bid for re-election Tuesday night beating councilman Moe Baddourah.
The mayor tweeted Tuesday night "Thank you, Columbia for the trust you've placed in me. Thank you for the chance to continue our journey! "
Turnout across the city was set at about 12% of total registered voters.
The race started out with three candidates for the office, but Larry Sypolt dropped out last week, throwing his support behind the incumbent Benjamin.
It's the second term for Columbia's first black mayor.
And even though Moe Baddourah will not be Columbia's next mayor, he is still looking forward to serving the city.
"Just good thoughts in moving forward. I'll still continue to do all I can for my district and at the same time, all I can for the city. So moving forward, that's what I'm going to do." says Baddourah.
